Boo!

Did you know that this year the Shirley Jackson Awards will be presented for the first time?

Here are the finalists and the blog.

I have read one of the finalists, Generation Loss by Elizabeth Hand, and its choice (and the looks of some of the other finalists), it looks like the judges really took Jackon's legacy into account. She had the ability to recognize, and capture with absolute preciseness, the horror of living.

Cool! My vote is for Sharp Teeth. ok, it's the only one I've read, but it was GREAT.

The horror of living, I like that. I'll have to check out the rest of these...

Thanks for the heads up, as usual, ever-astute CTH.

Oh goodness, I am such a chicken, even some of those titles give me the willies, never mind cracking open their actual covers! You are so brave!

I am actually really excited about this award. I hope it will highlight Jackson's kind of cerebral horror. The Haunting of Hill Houseis one of the most extremely creepy books I have ever read and I suggest it to everyone.

I love Shirley Jackson.
