Object Lesson

Saturday night a helmet saved my life. If B had not been wearing a helmet when he had a bike accident only a few blocks from our apartment, I would have likely expired from grief.

In the ambulance, my honey did not know how old he is. He did not know what landed him strapped to a gurney. He did not remember calling me to tell me he "fell off" his bike. Then shock set in and I couldn't warm him up.

The emergency room smelled like rotten fish and barf. Not the best way to spend a Saturday night.

B left the hospital with busted face and hands, and some (possibly) fractured ribs. Two days later he is back to his sharp self but in a lot of pain.

ALWAYS wear your helmet folks. No excuses.

Oh my god. I'm so glad B is okay.

I was in a bike accident once, a few years ago. I felt the back of my head hit the ground through the helmet, but it didn't seem like that much of an impact at the time. The next morning, when my muscles stiffened up and my entire body was immobilized, I realized how hard I must've hit the ground. I've been a helmet zealot ever since.

I hope B heals up quickly. Man. How scary.

Thanks, lady.

Hope all is well with you. I am having a crazy month, but I want to start emailing again.

Best wishes, Bill!
Stay balanced, Carrie!

From Manhattan to Philly and beyond . . . It's an unbearable smog clog of road hogs out there. Ironic, it is, considering there is a CAR in the word careful. These daze the only drivers who appear to be CAReful ride on TWO wheels (perhaps because the velcro cell phone has yet to catch on?).

;p-)

Now that all that's really visibly left is the black eye and the scrapes on my knuckles, people at work are looking at me pretty funny. They don't seem entirely convinced by the bike story.
